THE
VENUES
The
Englert Theatre, an historic venue in the heart of downtown Iowa
City, first opened in 1912 to host vaudeville acts and
three-reel movies. For nearly a century it has been a much-loved community
icon. In 1999,
when it was
about to be closed forever, the town came together to fund a grand renovation
and renewal. Now live shows and movies have returned to this beautiful
performing space.
